Many Friends Cooking: An International Cookbook
Published in Hardcover by Putnam Pub Group Juv (October, 1980)
Average review score:

This is a unique book...... in that it introduces young cooks to the many different cusines around the world. Some of the recipes, like the sushi, may be difficult for a very young child but those are easily avoided with the raiting system next to each recipe. Also, adults can help kids with the hard parts. This book is a lot of fun!

Mini
Published in Paperback by Motorbooks International (December, 2002)
Average review score:

A Must Own Book For Owners Of The New MiniAs the owner of a classic Mini (1964 Morris Mini Minor) and a 2002 BMW Mini, this book was an extremely satisfying read. While it provides background on the originial Mini (although not to the level of detail that one might find in The Complete Mini by Chris Rees or Essential Mini Cooper by Anders Ditlev Clausager), the bulk of its 95 pages is devoted to the development, manufacturing, and marketing of the new Mini. The text is crisp and concise and is nicely complemented by excellent colour photographs and copious diagrams. Especially interesting are the assembly line photographs that show Minis being manufactured. The book is not just a glorified advertisement for the new Mini. The chapter on driving the new Mini provide objective insights into the Mini's strengths and weaknesses. A few minor criticisms of this book include some sloppy editting. The photograph of Sir Alec Issigonis on page 10 indicates he is posing with a pair of Austin Minis when in fact anyone who knows anything about Minis can clearly tell the two cars in question carry Morris badging. In addition, the book focuses on the US market and ignores any unique approaches to marketing the Mini in other countries (for example, the Canadian Launch Edition is totally overlooked). But despite these minor quibbles, this is a book that every owner of a BMW Mini should add to their bookshelf.

Music and Medicine: Haydn Mozart Beethoven Schubert: Notes on Their Lives, Works, and Medical Histories
Published in Hardcover by Medi-Ed Pr (October, 1994)
Average review score:

A thought-provoking look at the composers' lives and health.Anyone with an interest in classical music will find this book fascinating, especially if you've heard stories about Beethoven's deafness, and Schubert's syphilis, stories that have been repeated so often they are taken for fact. Dr. Neumayr read copious letters and notes about the 4 composers, and came to his own conclusions about their medical histories, giving us background as to what medical practices were at the time, and what would have been standard treatments and understandings of health. Even if you're horrified by what you read (Beethoven being punctured to relieve his abdominal swelling due to fluid retention) you'll come away with renewed compassion for not just the composers, but all people who lived and died in the 18-19th centuries. You'll love the music of these masters even more when you find out what their lives were really like!

The Nightmares on Elm Street Parts 1, 2, 3: The Continuing Story - A Novel
Published in Paperback by St Martins Mass Market Paper (February, 1987)
Average review score:

1 and 2 are great. Pity about 3The first three Nightmare on Elm Street films in book form. The first two are excellent and you really feel you know the characters whose backgrounds are explored nicely.
But what happened to the novelising of Part 3? It starts off well but most of it bears no resemblance to the film at all and seems just an underdeveloped mish-mash. Very disappointing.
The feeble novelising of Part 3 barely deserves one star, but the novels of the other two make this publication on not to miss. And there are some nice photos from the films.

Noddy and the Bumpy Dog (The Noddy Library)
Published in Hardcover by BBC Consumer Publishing (10 September, 1992)
Average review score:

Noddy and Bumpy DogMy son and daughter (ages 35 & 33) had 5 Noddy books when they were younger (6-9 years old). They still argue over ownership of them. Now their 5 1/2 year old nephew has discovered them and is delighting in the funny characters and their misadventures. The books have short chapters, making them ideal for bedtime reading. Tyler often reads a page or two by himself, & in fact, read a page for the Principal when he was Kid of the month in November. I am ordering several more Noddy books so my children and grandchildren have enough to share.

Not in My Backyard
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Avon (09 November, 1999)
Average review score:

Not in My BackyardFirst off, I have to say that I LOVE all the E.J. Pugh mysteries. Susan Rogers Cooper could write about making a grocery list, and as long as E.J. was the one making the list, it would be highly readable and entertaining, and surely funny. My only criticism of this book was that Cooper does not spend enough time putting E.J in her best element-her family. The interaction E.J. has with Willis, Vera, Luna, Grahm, Megan, and Bessie is what makes each of her books so special; to me the mystery plot is just an excuse to get these wonderful characters together. I hope that future Pugh books have more of this witty and real interaction than Not in My Backyard did.
